Regular resistance training, a balanced diet, and proper resting between workouts are all needed for gaining strength and muscle mass. If any of those components are missing, you will struggle to build strength.

Cardio workouts will not kill your strength gains if you have enough rest between your workouts. Your body will generally need at least 48 hours of rest between two strength workouts and 24 hours of rest between endurance (cardio) workouts.

You can increase your strength without visible muscle growth. It will depend on several factors. It depends on how you train, how much you rest, how old you are and there is also the influence of genetics. For example, I have a really hard time building muscle mass. My genetics and my age are against me. But I’m getting stronger and stronger.
