Top Benefits Of The Movement Athlete Academy

The Movement Athlete review would not be complete without looking at the main benefits of the app. Here are a few that are the most important and separate this app from the rest on the market:

  • When you go through the initial assessment the app creates your first workout with all sets and reps for you
  • It also adapts to how you feel each day. If you are tired, you do fewer reps, or the app gives you easier skills to work on
  • The app also allows you to use more or less equipment depending on what you have access to
  • It has a gamified skill mastery, so it’s fun working on achieving skills. You will see your progress as percentages to full mastery of each skill
  • You can select the default duration you have for your workouts. The app will spit out the skills you will do in the time you have set for the workout

Pricing

The Movement Athlete Academy has several payment options available. You can choose to pay monthly, quarterly, or yearly. You can also use the one-time payment for full access. Here’s the selection of payment options:

  • $24.97/m

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Gamified skill mastery (each skill will show the percentage of full mastery you achieved so far)
  • You can adjust what equipment you have access to and the app will spit out available workouts for you
  • You can set the default duration of workouts depending on the time you have (and adjust it if you have less or more time available for the current workout session)
  • Great initial assessment for a quick start
  • It adapts to your current level (if you feel tired, you can do fewer reps, or choose an easier exercise)
Cons
  • Some progressions are not balanced well (some exercises will go well into the endurance rep range instead of keeping all exercises in the strength/hypertrophy range of reps)
  • If you don’t have access to some of the equipment, you may not be able to work on some muscle groups
  • Short exercise videos without detailed explanations of each move

The Movement Athlete Alternatives

The Movement Athlete Academy is a great calisthenics program that will keep you busy for years. It’s not a program that lasts a few weeks. Programs you go through, and you are off searching for the next thing.

The Movement Athlete will help you improve your strength, flexibility, and muscle mass for a long time. But, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money right away and you are looking for cheaper alternatives, here are some you may consider:

My Experience Using The Movement Athlete Academy

After working with Athlean XERO for a year, I got bored with it. I wanted to try some other program and I stumbled upon The Movement Athlete Academy.

When I started out, one of the exercises that made me humble was laying knee raises. You need to do 3 sets of 30 reps per set for mastery.

This seemed impossible at first. I was working for months when I was finally able to do it. This made me aware of how weak my core was.

The other one that was hard for me was inverted rows. But both were great because they helped me strengthen the muscle groups I wasn’t using in Athlean XERO.

What I liked the most about The Movement Athlete program was the gamified skill mastery. When you start you have all skills at zero. You progress slowly and you can see your progress as percentages for each skill. On the beginner level, you are working all muscle groups. Each muscle group has a skill(s) associated with it.

Here’s what it looks like.

Gamified Skills Mastery

Here are the skills and targeted muscle groups on the beginner level:

  • Side – Obliques
  • Bodyline – Abs and chest
  • Pushup – Chest and triceps
  • Back – Lower back
  • Handstand – Shoulders
  • Squat – Leg muscles
  • Dips – Triceps
  • Pull-up – Upper back and biceps
  • Ab – Abs and hip flexors

Conclusion: Should You Buy It?

If you are looking for a program that adapts to whatever situation you may find yourself in, The Movement Athlete might be exactly what you are looking for.

This app can be your companion for years to come. It starts from the beginning and goes to the most advanced calisthenics skills. It’s also flexible and adapts to what you are able to do.

It will let you select the duration of workouts and equipment profiles. You can even have custom workouts targeting specific muscle groups or specific workout types.

If you are looking for the one program that can do almost anything you can imagine, The Movement Athlete Academy might be the right choice. I bought it and used a one-time payment for full access to the program because I wanted to use it for a long time.

Now go and get it for yourself!
